Story Prompt #1

I'll be using the following prompt to write a short story, and I want you all to tell me what you think about it, what I could do better, etc. So here goes!

Two policemen stood at the scene of a crime, sirens flashing all around them as they stared at the broken doors of a bank. The bank had been robbed less than twenty minutes ago, but nobody was hurt. However, 2 million dollars had been stolen from under the watchman's nose.

One of the policemen let out a sigh before walking forward, ducking under the yellow crime scene tape and going into the bank. "Might as well get this over with," he grumbles under his breath, spotting the watchman leaning against a wall, his hands over his head.

The policeman's partner followed closely behind him as they approached the watchman to ask him exactly what happened.

"Are you Travis Davidson?" The lead policeman asks and the watchman nods his head ashamed.

"Can you explain to me what happened here?" the policeman asks and Travis lets out a sigh.

"In all honesty, sir, I can't say. The gentlemen walked in, asked a banker about starting an account, and wanted to see where their money would be kept, so I showed them to the vault." he says and the policeman lets out a sigh.

"And that wasn't at all suspicious to you?" he questions and Travis smiles.

"Of course not. They were gentlemanly and professional. It was quite nice to see such charismatic young men." Travis says and the policeman raises an eyebrow.

"You're praising the thieves?" he asks disbelievingly and the watchman shrugs his shoulders.

"I suppose so. They were very well-mannered." He comments and the policeman throws his hands up.

"They robbed a bank!! YOUR bank!" he shouts and Travis smiles.

"Ahh, yes. But they were polite about it," he says and the policeman puts a hand to his forehead. "Besides, they didn't want the money for no reason. The man said he was going to give it to some charity or something like that. Real nice man. He did put a gun on my back, but he promised he'd never shoot me. It was a real gentleman's game, if I do say so myself." Travis finishes and the policeman snorts.

"Unbelievable." he grumbles before his eyes widen.

"Wait, you said they were gentlemen right? And they stole the money for a charity?" he questions and Travis nods his head.

The policeman feels a sense of dread hang over him and he lets out a long sigh, putting a hand on his forehead.

"I know who they are." he grumbles before turning around, bidding farewell to the happy-go-lucky watchman.

"If you see those gentlemen again, tell them I appreciated the kindness!" Travis shouts after the two cops, who ignore his comment as they continue walking.

"That man is really an idiot." His partner comments and the main policeman nods, letting out a sigh.

"Yes but that idiot was actually helpful. I know who our culprits are." he says and his partner looks at him in surprise.

"Really?" he asks surprised. The policeman nods before sending his partner away, and once he was out of earshot, the policeman pulled out his phone, dialing a number and pressing it to his ear.

After three rings somebody picked up, a cheerful voice greeting the cop.

"Marcus, why did you rob a bank again?" the policeman asks and the other side of the line got quiet.

"Well it's good to hear from you too, brother." Marcus replies after a few seconds of silence and the policeman groans.

"Why did you do it?!" he asks and Marcus laughs.

"It was quite nice, if I do say so myself. Nice people. Me and Johnny got a good amount going for us right now." he says and the policeman grumbles to himself.

"Marcus, you have to turn yourself in." He says, already knowing how this was going to play out.

"But...David, I did this for you. For us." Marcus says sadly and David groans.

"Don't start that with me. I'm a cop." David hisses and Marcus whines.

"But brother, I did this so you wouldn't have to be a cop anymore. It could be us three brothers again!" he says sadly and David rolls his eyes.

"You're an idiot, Marcus. You give yourself away too easily every single time with your gentlemanly act." he says and Marcus scoffs.

"It is not an act." he sasses and David narrows his eyes, knowing if he talked to his brother too much longer, he was going to let him get away with this crime again. It would be the third time this year.

"I'm arresting you."

"BROTHER YOU WOULDN'T!!"

David pulled the phone away from his ear as his brother screamed before a wry smile came to his face, putting the phone back to his ear.

"Don't worry brother," he says with a small snicker. "I'll be very well-mannered about your arrest."
